I would like to introduce myself since
you were good enough to say (click?) hello. My name is Roger Pelz, I am
retired and sail San Francisco Bay often on my 1982 Newport 30 Mk. III.
You will find sail boat pictures here of racing dinghies and keel boats in
the ZLE Photo Gallery (see button on your left).
When I got a digital camera in 2004 I became totally intrigued with what it can do. I have
enjoyed photography ever since I was a teenager - back in ancient history.
To be able to take as many pictures as you want and not have to pay for film
and developing really appealed to my Scotch heritage.
Early in 2005 I decided that I was going to
start taking racing sailboat pictures on San Francisco Bay. As I take
pictures I am selecting a group of the best pictures that will display,
automatically, when your computer is not active (also known as a Screen
Saver). They will be available for FREE on the "Screen Savers" page. You will
also find a a lot of individual sail boat pictures (mostly racing dinghies
and keelboats) in the ZLE Photo Gallery. Many of the individual
pictures are part
of the Screen Savers.
In the process of developing this web site to
make the pictures and Screen Savers easily available, as so often
happens, I decided to widen the scope of the site but still keep the sailing
theme. As a result the domain name for this site is "The-Sailors-Place.com".
I have lots of ideas on what I want to include in this "Sailors Place" so I
hope you check in often as things will change, on a regular basis.
I first learned to sail a Lehman Dinghy in
Southern California in 1959 at the Newport Beach Sea Scout Base while I was working as a
Boy Scout Executive (paid, professional). I raced 420's in Apra Harbor,
Territory of Guam, in 1971 and 1972. I crewed on a couple of keel
boats in races in the late 1980's. I also owned a Capri Cyclone for 20
years and raced and sailed it in the Sacramento area.
When I retired in 1998 I joined a sailing
club (Tradewinds) in Richmond and chartered keel boats along with getting my
ASA certifications through Advanced Coastal Cruising. In 2002 I
purchased a Newport 30 and sail the Bay as often as I can get out on the
water.
Last of all, check out the San Francisco
Bay/Delta Tide and Current Calculator - you can access it from the Home
Page. I developed it when I first started to charter keel boats and use it every time I sail. There is a Quattro Pro and an
Excel version which should cover almost everyone that would like to try it
out.

I came across this "Boating Humor" on a web site and
thought you might also enjoy it (as well as some of the other humor there).
Live Aboard Your Boat While At Home
1. Sleep on the shelf in your closet.
2. Replace the closet door with a curtain.
3. Four hours after you go to sleep, have your wife whip open the curtain,
shine a flashlight in your eyes, and mumble: "Your watch!".
4. Put a wall across the middle of your bathtub and move the shower head
down to chest level.
5. When taking showers, shut off the water . . . . . . .
